The inter-section of clinical psychology and software engineering: an example of successful inter-disciplinary working
The first Division of Psychology and Mental Health research seminar in 2019 will be jointly presented by Dr Sandra Bucci (Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology, Division of Psychology and Mental Health) and Matthew Machin (Information Systems Programme Manager, Division of Informatics, Imaging & Data Sciences).
Abstract: There is an important gap in scaling up psychosocial interventions for people with severe mental health problems so that these interventions are not only widely available but also delivered in a timely manner. We examined the feasibility of adapting a psychological intervention traditionally delivered face-to-face onto a digital platform. We are now trialing this platform, Actissist, in a group of people in the early phase of psychosis. In this talk, both Sandra Bucci and Matthew Machin will report the clinical and technical processes used to adapt and develop the digital mental health platform we have developed. We will discuss our approach to inter-disciplinary working and describe both the strengths and challenges of working towards a shared vision when two different disciplines work together.
