DESCRIPTION:The Manchester Guardian was founded by John Edward Taylor in 
 1821\, two years after the Peterloo Massacre. \n\nUnder the editorship o
 f the legendary Charles Prestwich Scott\, it was transformed from an ess
 entially provincial journal into a newspaper of national and internation
 al standing - laying the foundations for the character of the Guardian a
 s we know it today. \n\nThis collection encounter will focus upon corres
 pondence between Scott\, and the famous and renowned individuals with wh
 om he exchanged letters regarding momentous events of the early 20th cen
 tury.
