 About the book\n\nManchester\, 1867. Two men\, haunted by their pasts. D

  in Manchester from New York. He is an Irish-American veteran of the Civ

 died at the University of Manchester and the University of Virginia\, US
 A. In 2007 he co-founded the University of Manchester's Centre for New W
 riting. He is the author of Incredible Bodies and the 2016 Man Booker-lo
 nglisted novel\, The North Water. The Abstainer is his third novel.\n\nJ
 ohn McAuliffe is the Director of Creative Manchester and Professor of Po
 etry at the Centre for New Writing. He has released five collections of 
 poetry with The Galley Press \, most recently "The Kabul Olympics" (2020
