DESCRIPTION:his free webinar\, jointly organised by Understanding Society
 \, the UK Data Service Census team and CeLSIUS\, is designed for anyone 
 who would like to know more about sources of survey data available for i
 nvestigating language spoken in the UK. \n\nIn the first part of the pre
 sentation\, Dr Alita Nandi\, University of Essex\, will talk about langu
 age data collected in Understanding Society\, a household panel survey o
 f around 40\,000 UK households. She will give a brief overview of the st
 udy and how to access the data.\n\nThis will be followed by Dr Oliver Du
 ke-Williams\, UCL\, who will talk about a question asked for the first t
 ime in the 2011 Censuses - that of main language spoken (and of proficie
 ncy in English) - and about long-running questions on ability to speak\,
  read and write Welsh\, Scots\, Scottish Gaelic and Irish and Ulster-Sco
 ts. The talk will cover what data are available and how they can be acce
 ssed\, how researchers can use them and what they show.\n\nThe third spe
 aker\, Dr Jemima Stockton\, UCL\, will focus on questions about language
  in the census longitudinal studies and how people can use and access th
 ese data\, and changes over time in speakers of different languages.\n\n
 The webinar will consist of 45 minutes of presentations and 15 minutes f
 or questions. \n\nThe webinar is suitable for both new and experienced r
 esearchers. The data discussed in the first two parts of this webinar ar
 e available for anyone to use while the census longitudinal studies data
  are accessed via a safe room and are only available to researchers base
