 -Oort implies that the special points lying on a hypersurface X \\subset
  C^n are bounded by an ineffective constant which depends only on the de
 gree of X and the degree of a field of definition for X. This constant m
 ay be made effective for certain families of hypersurfaces\, at the cost
  of introducing a dependence on the height of X. In this talk\, I will d
 iscuss some bounds which are both effective and uniform in the height fo
