Title: Divisor sums and Hankel matrices
Abstract: In this talk I will demonstrate a new approach to evaluating divisor sums, such as the variance of the divisor function over short intervals, and divisor correlations. The approach makes use of additive characters to translate the problem from a number theoretic one to a linear algebraic one involving Hankel matrices. I will briefly discuss extensions to other Diophantine equations, as well as indicate further connections between Hankel matrices and number theory.
