Creative Health: Supporting older adults to live well in Greater Manchester

Join us for an afternoon exploring creative health approaches to supporting older adults to live well in Greater Manchester, with a particular focus on the link between creative health and brain health. The event is co-convened by Create Well GM, which is part of the GM Creative Health Place Partnership. Programme and Creative Manchester. It is one of a series of deep dive events aimed at supporting the creative health workforce in Greater Manchester. This event in split into two parts, we invite you to join both or either of these.

Part 1: Creative Health supporting older adults to Live Well in Greater Manchester. In this session we will hear about examples of great practice from across GM and you will have opportunity to contribute your examples and experience to the conversation through participatory mapping activities.

Part 2: We’re still here, aren’t we? Stories of creativity and brain health. We’re still here, aren’t we? is a short film featuring three interlinked fictional monologues exploring creativity and brain health.

Samira (Perveen Hussain) runs a community centre offering creative activities for a wide range of people young and old. Pearl (Ann Sarge) attends a regular art group at the centre for people living with dementia but today she has gone missing. Her husband Cecil (Steve Royston Brown), who also volunteers at the centre, paces the foyer worrying and waiting for Pearl to arrive.

The film explores the potential of creative activities to support brain health but also addresses challenges people encounter when trying to facilitate and access these activities. It aims to stimulate discussion amongst health professionals, community workers and creative practitioners.

The film was written by Nicola Schofield and directed by Greta Santagata. It was produced by Sarah Fox and Simon Parry and is based on research by them and others into creativity, brain health and older adults.

The event will include a screening of the film, a panel discussion and Q & A.
