Our next Behaviour Change Meeting will be held on Thursday 5th December at 3pm, where we have Olivia Malkowski presenting on ‘Towards a precision digital intervention to promote physical activity in older adults of low socioeconomic status’.
Olivia has recently submitted her PhD thesis in Advanced Quantitative Methods in the Department for Health at the University of Bath, which aimed to inform the development of a digital precision intervention to promote physical activity among older adults of low socioeconomic status in the UK. She is now an incoming Postdoctoral Associate in the Epidemiology of Aging and Disability at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
Olivia will present two secondary data analyses of a nationally representative dataset, two large systematic reviews (with over 100 included studies), which is the first of its kind to comprehensively explore the statistical associations of modifiable correlates or determinants with physical activity, separately for UK older adults of low versus high socioeconomic status, and two primary Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) studies among a sample of low-income older adults.
Collectively, the findings of this programme of research could help to inform the content and delivery of a personalised, digital just-in-time adaptive intervention. Olivia will discuss useful strategies for recruiting, engaging, and retaining older adults of low socioeconomic status in digital health research.
