If you’ve ever felt awkward during long periods of silence or worried about not being the expert in the room, you’re not alone. Many educators share these concerns. The good news is, you don’t need to have all the answers—you can create an environment where your role is to facilitate students’ investigation and learning. This workshop is here to support you with practical strategies that build confidence, reduce stress, and help you connect with your students in meaningful ways.
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
- Identify and summarise the concepts of active learning and student engagement.
- Explain the rationale behind the value of student engagement and active learning in higher education.
- Define the challenges and benefits of active learning approaches for learners and facilitators.
- Apply useful methodologies to diversify teaching approaches for a variety of learners.
- Plan one (or more!) teaching and learning approach that you can implement to enhance student engagement.
- Critically reflect on your experience designing, delivering and evaluating facilitative learning sessions.
- Participants will have an opportunity to explore underpinning educational theories, related factors and elements, practice the application of methodologies and create a plan to include at least one intervention in their own future teaching practice.
