Join us at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library for a fascinating exploration of the origins of cultural connections between Europe and Asia. Meet curators and researchers at the University of Manchester to discover and learn about rare maps, dictionaries, travelogues, images, as well as literary works that reveal the expanding knowledge about South and Southeast Asia. Discover how these printed materials laid the foundation for European trade and expansion in Asia and the impact of the powerful and sophisticated Islamic empires of Mughal India and Spice Island sultanates on European literature and culture, in the stunning surroundings of the Historic Reading Room.
