Overview
If you are looking to make assessment more impactful, scalable, and aligned with developing independent learners, this session will provide concrete methods you can apply straight away in your modules.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the theoretical foundation of active self-feedback based on Nicol's (2021) inner feedback theory
- Design and implement self-feedback activities using the cycle of doing, comparing, and refining
- Generate customisable self-feedback worksheets for their own disciplinary context using GenAI prompts
- Apply evidence-based strategies to enhance student autonomy and evaluative judgement in their teaching
- Create reusable assessment designs that incorporate active self-feedback principles
Participants will leave this workshop with immediately implementable tools and strategies to integrate active self-feedback into their teaching practice. They will gain:
- A practical understanding of how inner feedback theory translates into classroom practice
- Ready-to-use GenAI prompts that generate discipline-specific self-feedback worksheets
- Comprehensive implementation guides featuring cross-disciplinary case studies from 18 modules
- Video resources for both students and staff to support implementation
- Hands-on experience designing reusable assessments for their own teaching contexts
- Evidence-based confidence in the approach's effectiveness, with research showing 86% of engaged students achieving significant intellectual development gains
