Bayesian Methods for Population Forecasting
Abstract
The estimation and forecasting of population composition presents a series of challenging inference problems. Each of the three key components of population change, fertility, mortality and migration will be discussed in this talk. I will particularly focus on methods for forecasting UK mortality rates for population and pension planning and the development of dynamic mixture models to account for changing fertility patterns.
