Booking for this event will commence at 9am on 19th January.
This workshop will be led by Julia Segar and Anna Coleman with support from the HiPPO team. We will outline approaches to carrying out qualitative research in organisations showing the importance of moving beyond interviewing as a sole method of approaching such research.
We will discuss the use of document and policy analysis; observation and shadowing in the workplace; the challenges of interviewing ‘elite’ groups; using tracer issues to help understand how organisations work; going ‘off script’ with your carefully planned question schedule; issues around maintaining confidentiality and anonymity in an organisational context.
This workshop will give a flavour of some of the issues involved in qualitative organisational research and will also give an opportunity for participants to discuss and debate issues in small groups and consider how they might plan and execute a research project.
The workshop will signpost people to the following series of ‘What is?’ sessions which will explore some of the methods and issues introduced in the workshop in more detail.
