Adolescent peer networks and mental health: Studying the influence of online and in-person peer networks on young people’s mental health.
The talk will outline several ongoing projects exploring the links between adolescent peer networks and their influence on mental health. The first explores homophily in self-injury among school pupils using Exponential Random Graph Models. The second explores the links between youth subcultural identity, peer networks, attempted suicide other forms of psychopathology. The last project explores the online social networks of Instagram users who share images of non-suicidal self-injury. Comments and discussion about the best methods to address the research questions are welcome.
