Why surgeons need bioengineers (with Professor Tony Corno)
Date: Wednesday 26 February 2025
Time: 12:30–13:30
Location: Hybrid- Christabel Pankhurst Building and Online
Abstract
Cardiac surgeons face with problems in the pre-operative period, intra-operative period and post-operative period. Often the solution to these problems requires scientific input from mathematicians, engineers and bioengineers.
The collaboration among surgeons and scientist required a bilateral adaptation to the completely different language and culture, as surgery is predominantly an art, while math and engineering is a science.
Professor Tony Corno will explain how these differences had to be effectively solved in order to proceed with joint research and scientific activities, and will show examples of positive outcomes, implemented in the daily clinical practice.
