On Tuesday 9 January 2024, the School of Biological Sciences will host its 8th annual celebratory ‘SBS Annual Event’, which will be held on campus in University Place.

The day, which is always a key date in the SBS calendar, celebrates successes and achievements from across the School within the past 12 months, but this year has an added dimension. We are kickstarting the University’s 200-year Bicentenary celebrations and so we shall be showcasing the past, present and future of Bioscience as part of our programme of events. Academic, Research, Technical and Professional Services staff from across the School attend, as well as our Postgraduate students. We shall see the Second Year PGR Student Poster competition session and Divisional Lightning talks, which will be held over the extended lunch time period, and the event is a great opportunity to network with colleagues from across the School, wider Faculty and learn about our Research, Teaching and other activities and initiatives. The morning presentations will highlight achievements from across the Divisions in Research, Teaching and Social Responsibility. Continuing after lunch will be a Business Engagement showcase highlighting successful industrial partnerships with a guest speaker from a major partner.

The Key speaker for the event is SBS’s Matthew Cobb, Professor of Zoology, who is of course an outstanding and renowned scientific communicator and will provide a Manchester perspective on the past 200 years of bioscience and, we hope, its future. The day will conclude with the PGR poster session award ceremony and a drinks reception! A final eBrochure will be circulated in due course, this will include the running order for the day, together with presentation abstracts.

All Academic, research, technical, Professional Services staff & PGR students are all encouraged to attend, so please register now via Eventbrite – (pre-registration is requested for catering purposes and advise any specific dietary requirements).

Kind Regards The SBS Annual Event Planning team!
