WEBINAR:

Freedom House, MCI & UoM's Critical Global Politics Research Cluster are co-hosting a virtual panel discussion on China's media influence.

Join us for a discussion of how the Chinese Communist Party is trying to influence media globally and how democracies are responding. A new Freedom House report, "Beijing’s Global Media Influence: Authoritarian Expansion and the Power of Democratic Resilience", documents how the Chinese government is accelerating its efforts to influence news coverage and commentary in 30 countries worldwide, including through the use of covert and coercive tactics. Learn how these tactics are evolving and how journalists, activists, and governments in democracies are pushing back to mitigate the impact of the campaign.

The virtual panel discussion will include a presentation of the studies' global findings and case studies for Ghana, Indonesia, and the UK from the 2022 report. Speakers include Dr. Aurelia Ayisi, Dr. Muhammad Zulfikar Rakhmat, and Angeli Datt, with Ellie Young moderating.
