Title: Graphical calculus: from numerical methods to Feynman diagrams to higher Lie theory and microformal morphisms, part 3
Abstract: The goal of these talks is to explore a number of seemingly unrelated topics, in which graphs and trees can be used to capture the structure of important calculations. In each case, the objects of interest will turn out to be infinite series, where the summations run over special classes of graphs or trees.
In part 3 we will look at how graphical methods can be used to study thick morphisms (as defined by Ted Voronov), which are generalisations of smooth maps between manifolds that still give rise to pullbacks on functions. These pullbacks are nonlinear and until recently had no known closed form. This problem has been resolved by taking inspiration from some of the methods we have looked at in the previous two lectures.
