FBMH: The Future of Teaching and Learning Symposium – Tuesday 16 December 2025

We are excited to announce that the second FBMH Faculty Symposium on the Future of Teaching and Learning will take place on 16 December 2025. This full-day event (09:00–16:15) will explore innovative and practical approaches to learning and teaching across the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. Attendance from across FBMH (T&L, research, academic and PS) is encouraged.

The Symposium will have keynote talks on blended learning in large cohort teaching, the future of digital learning at UoM and how to engage and support students en masse. These sessions will address future-facing themes in higher education, including AI, flexible learning, and inclusive curriculum development. ________________________________________

Key Areas and Workshops Attendees will take part in interactive, parallel workshops designed to explore key areas of innovation in teaching:

• Assessment Workshop A practical look at assessment strategies and innovations in applied settings.

• AI-Empowered Teaching Examples and provocations on using generative AI to enhance learning design and delivery.

• Gamification Strategies How game elements can transform engagement and learning outcomes in your units.

• Enhancing Lab Practicals with Active Learning Approaches to reinvigorate traditional lab sessions with active, student-centred strategies.

• Engaging and Supporting Students in Large Group Settings Explore strategies, tools, and mindsets to promote belonging, engagement, and inclusivity in large lectures and cohorts.

• Taking Your Units to the Next Level – Canvas Transition and Beyond Take a practical look at unit design, digital pedagogy, and post-transition enhancement on Canvas.

Each participant will be able to choose one workshop per session (morning and afternoon). These parallel sessions offer practical tools, collaborative discussion, and examples of best practice directly from your peers. ________________________________________

Poster Showcase – Call Opening Soon! We’re also excited to invite staff to present their own work at the Teaching Innovation Poster Showcase. Whether you’ve tried something new, gathered student feedback, redesigned a unit, or explored digital tools—this is your chance to share and connect.

The call for posters will open soon – keep an eye out for the announcement!
