Almost a month after the (first) earthquake, what is happening in the south of Turkey and north of Syria? What may be the role of the international community in responding and in the recovery?

  • ?--

Responders to the earthquake in Syria and Turkey will share about the current situation and challenges in rescue and response activities in both countries, and the politization of aid in this context. We will have a special focus on the situation of forcibly displaced Syrians.

We are honoured to have speakers from the White Helmets who are the only rescue team in Northwest Syria and were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize (see their documentary on Netflix), the Danish Refugee Council in Turkey, international news media TRT World who will join remotely from the countries; and in Manchester, The Syria Campaign and a volunteer from Action for Humanity who has just returned from Turkey.

We warmly welcome members of the public along with university staff and students. Our event will also offer a platform for grassroots and non-profit organisations’ advocacy and we will share links for fundraising.
