Our September edition of the monthly Sustainable Futures Seminar Series will be held on Thursday 28th September 2-3pm.
This event will be a One Bin to Rule Them All Project Special with the following speakers:
- Dr Torik Holmes, Research Associate at The University of Manchester's Sustainable Consumption Institute.
- Dr Kristoffer Kortsen, Research Associate at The University of Manchester.
Plastic recycling in the UK is overly complex and in need of vast improvement. While plastic recycling and circularity are policy priorities, a path away from this fragmented and siloed system is unclear. The interdisciplinary ‘One Bin to Rule them All’ project proposes and tests a holistic solution to the plastics recycling challenge - collect all plastics in one bin and define a standard set of materials from which ‘value’ can be recouped. During this seminar, the team will share key research insights and outline several policy implications, explaining why more attention needs to be paid to everyday practices and to the plastics hierarchy of fates.
