Creating an inclusive curriculum is a powerful way to amplify diverse voices, enrich learning experiences, and prepare students for a complex world.
This interactive workshop encourages you to critically reflect on your teaching methods and curriculum through the lens of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), while providing practical strategies to create and deliver curricula that embrace diverse perspectives, advance equity, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging for every student.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- Recognise the historical and societal reasons for the lack of inclusivity in many curricula and the need to decolonise curricula.
- Articulate the barriers and challenges that staff report when engaging in equality, diversity and inclusion in a staff-student context
- Identify the benefits of an inclusive curriculum for all students, including underrepresented or marginalised groups.
- Analyse current curriculum materials to identify biases, omissions, and areas of potential improvement.
- Identify key resources, readings, and tools that promote inclusivity.
- Design and implement teaching strategies that are inclusive of diverse student populations.
- Create a personal action plan for integrating inclusivity into future teaching practices.
- Recognise the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting inclusivity across departments and faculties
