This public lecture, co-sponsored by English, American Studies and Creative Writing and the NWCDTP, will be part of the 2023 Sexuality Summer School: '(Up) Against Nature'

Professor Hal Gladfelder (University of Manchester) will deliver a lecture titled 'The Castrato as Culture Ghost' Respondent: Dr Noelle Gallagher

Professor Gladfelder is a specialist in eighteenth-century British literature and culture; the history and theory of the novel; the history of authorship; and the history of sexuality and gender. He is the author of two monographs: 'Criminality and Narrative in Eighteenth-Century England: Beyond the Law' (Johns Hopkins, 2001) and 'Fanny Hill in Bombay: The Making and Unmaking of John Cleland' (Johns Hopkins, 2012). His lecture will be drawn from current work in progress: a cultural history of the castrato in eighteenth-century London.
