Resourcefulness is clearly key to realising more sustainable and socially just futures. It involves finding quick and clever ways to meet human needs whilst sensibly managing renewable and finite resources and avoiding wasting energy, materials and water. However, there are competing visions and interests as to what form a resourceful future might take, who should be involved and how we might get there. In challenging profligate resource use, such a vision may also be met by resistance from incumbent interests.
This workshop, hosted by the Sustainable Futures: Resourceful Futures’ Society and Politics Sub-Group asks what the politics of resourcefulness might be, and how we might offer a collective research vision by way of response. In this 90 min workshop we will host a series of conversations around this theme. The intent is to provide new opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaboration of all forms around this research agenda.
As part of the event, please provide a one slide introduction with your research interests linked to how you envision the politics of resourcefulness. A sample slide is attached here. Please email this slide to sustainablefutures@manchester.ac.uk by Tuesday 5th September so that these can be added to the slide deck to be presented on the day.
Please note this event is only open to those internal to The University of Manchester.
