Join us for a talk from Professor Jamie Peck (Department of Geography, The University of British Columbia).
Professor Jamie Peck is an institutional political economist, working on a range of issues relating to economic and urban geography. Much of his research is concerned with the ways in which ostensibly global processes are (re) made through local sites, distanciated networks, and grounded practices. He is currently working on the restructuring of contingent employment regimes, the dynamics of “fast policy’,” and the fiscal transformation of the local state. In particular, over the last five years or so, he has been exploring the potential of conjunctural analysis in economic and urban geography, and this forms the basis of his talk.
Professor Peck is a University of Manchester alumni (BA Hons, 1983; PhD, 1988). In his close to forty-year career, he has authored a long-list of influential books and journal papers, his work appearing in geography, anthropology, planning, political science and sociology journals. His most recent book is Variegated Economies, published earlier this year by Oxford University Press. Various agencies and bodies have recognised Professor Peck’s research. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Canada and the Academy of Social Sciences.
