This workshop will introduce social scientists to randomised controlled trials (RCTS), using recent examples of social science trials. Participants will learn the practical steps involved in designing, organising and analysing an RCT, and find out when it is appropriate to choose the method. The workshop is suitable for anyone who is considering developing a trial or field experiment, and those who are interested in finding out more. Anyone who already has ideas for an RCT is welcome to bring them along, for us to develop on the day, but this is not essential.
Dr Sarah Cotterill is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Biostatistics, University of Manchester, and an adviser for the NIHR Research Design Service. She has extensive experience in the design of randomised controlled trials (RCT) for the evaluation of public policy and health interventions. She is co-author of a book, Nudge, Nudge, Think, Think: Using Experiments to Change Civic Behaviour. Prior to her university career, Sarah worked for many years in housing and regeneration for local authorities in Greater Manchester. http://www.manchester.ac.uk/research/sarah.cotterill/research
