The gaming industry is a cutting-edge intersection of technology and culture. With the industry's growth over the past few decades, the economic and cultural impact of video games has made the video game localisation a vital aspect of production. This guest lecture will present the challenges of game localisation, focusing on the indirectness of the source text and the complexity of the target text. It will then discuss the impact of direct and indirect translations in the localisation process on game localisation quality, using the Japanese game Dark Souls 3 as a case study.
