Title: Almost finitely presented hyperbolic subgroups over arbitrary rings
Abstract: In 1996, Gersten proved that if a group G is hyperbolic and of integral cohomological dimension 2, then any almost finitely presented subgroup H is hyperbolic as well. In 1997, Bestvina and Brady gave the first examples of groups which were almost finitely presented, but not finitely presented - they were finitely presented but with finitely generated integral relation modules. Hyperbolic groups of integral cohomological dimension higher than 2, but equal to 2 over other rings, were already known by Bestvina and Mess in 1991. In joint work with Robert Kropholler and Shaked Bader, we show that if G is a hyperbolic group of cohomological dimension 2 over some unital ring R, then any subgroup H with finitely generated relation module over R must also be hyperbolic.
