This workshop, run by artsmethods@manchester, provides an overview of the links between language and discourse as well as various practical approaches to Discourse Analysis applied to Language through examples of how they are used for research purposes. We develop an understanding of the ways in which discourses operate as practices and activities in the world by exploring how all elements of language express meaning which goes beyond literal or structure-based meaning.

Biography: Dr Letizia Alterno is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of English, American Studies and Creative Writing and has been running artsmethods@manchester methodology and theory workshops since 2012. She specialises in postcolonial studies.
