Let G be a finite group and F a field of characteristic p > 0. An FG-module M is endotrivial if HomF(M, M) \cong F \oplus P, for some projective kG-module P. One main class of indecomposable endotrivial modules is given by
\Sigma_G := {\Sigma^n(F), n \in Z},
where \Sigma denotes the Heller translate. In some cases, this is the only class of indecomposable endotrivial modules, for example when G is an elementary abelian p-group. In this talk, I will review some results on endotrivial modules then present some calculations on the symmetric powers of a specific indecomposable
endotrivial F S_4-module, S^{(3,1)}, which does not belong to \Sigma_{S_4}.
