Title: Pointwise ergodic theorems along random sequences
Abstract: A central problem in ergodic theory is to understand which sequences of integers are suitable for the pointwise convergence of ergodic averages. In seminal work, Bourgain showed that certain random sequences constructed from independent random variables satisfy this property. In this talk, we provide an overview of results in this area, focusing on random ergodic theorems and discussing recent extensions beyond the independent setting. These developments yield new classes of good sequences, including extensions of Bourgain’s return times theorem and sequences arising from hitting times of shrinking targets.
