Join us for a screening of All Work and No Pay and a discussion of the legacies and relevance of 1970s feminist activism and political economy today.
We will be screening a 1976 documentary about the Wages for Housework campaign in London. While illustrating some of the everyday experiences and organizing particular to the time, it also raises key questions and contradictions around work, care and wages that remain all too relevant in today's neoliberal context.
Following the screening, we will have a guided collective discussion about the film and its relevance today. We hope you'll join us and share your thoughts and reflections!
Free snacks and drinks will be available.
All Work and No Pay (London, 1976, 30min): Made in 1975 by the Power of Women Collective and Wages for Housework Campaign and broadcast in 1976 by the community access unit for the BBC, Open Door, the programme provided much needed airtime where the groups’ demand for wages for housework could be put forward. The film shows meetings and interviews with groups developing campaign strategies and individuals sharing their experiences.
This event is co-sponsored by the London Community Video Archive https://the-lcva.co.uk/
