Title: An invitation to model theory for operator algebras
Abstract: Operator algebras are structures with an algebraic flavour that are concretely represented as *-subalgebras of bounded operators on a Hilbert space. The model-theoretic study of operator algebras thus has parallels with classical/discrete model theory, but requires additional analytic tools from continuous model theory. I'll introduce the basics of continuous model theory, with a focus on classes of structures like Hilbert spaces, C*-algebras, and some subclasses of von Neumann algebras. As with many other fields, investigating the model theory of operator algebras has led to new approaches for understanding the underlying objects; I'll survey some modern topics on this interchange of logical ideas and operator algebraic structure.
