The Social Structure of Punk in North-West England
In this presentation I take a preliminary look at a network of punk gigs in Liverpool and Manchester, linked by the bands who played at them and the promoters who organised them. The aim of the analysis is to identify the structure of this 'music world' and, more specifically, to consider the impact of location (both city and venue) and time upon that structure. On a methodological level the presentation will preview a novel 'dual projection' approach to the analysis of cohesive subgroups.
