Managing climate change-related risks requires robust and actionable insights into future climates. In this webinar, presenters will discuss a recent paper that develops the plural climate storylines framework to complement existing physical climate storylines, which have strengthened the usability of climate projections yet struggled to generate action for just climate futures.
Physical climate storylines have analysed and communicated technical data, mainly for use amongst key decisionmakers. The authors put forward a complementary approach to generating climate storylines with a wider array of stakeholders, including marginalised residents, civil society organisations, and social scientists. Relatedly, they highlight the need for equity in the production and use of climate information. They present the Plural Climate Storylines approach using four discrete yet interrelated methodologies: Power-Sensitive, Decolonizing, Co-producing, and Normative Storylines - a framework to promote climate justice through new ways of understanding and acting upon climate risks, possibilities that they illustrate via consideration of urban adaptation.
Following an initial presentation, there will be a Q&A with several of the paper's co-authors.
All welcome!
