Living (and writing) the weather
Join University of Manchester sociologist Professor Jennifer Mason to learn about her research on ‘Living the Weather’, which explores how our everyday lives are full of weather and why weather seems to matter so much.
The workshop will feature a short film that was made as part of the project, and you will hear about some of the weather stories and experiences Jennifer collected from her study participants in the Calder Valley, as well as the poems she made using the words from their accounts. You will have the opportunity to write about and discuss your own encounters with weather, and you can try your hand at turning weather stories into poetry too if you like!
No writing experience necessary, and you can choose either to share what you write with the group or keep it private. Just bring an interest in the weather and an appetite to learn more.
