This talk will focus on the recently premiered musical composition "Illustrations of the Grand Ceremony", a piece commissioned by the Manchester Confucius Institute to celebrate their 15th anniversary. Some of the topics that will be discussed include: the process of collaboration between artist and organisation, the intercultural exchange between musical idioms of China and the UK, the compositional techniques and practical considerations when composing music, and how ideas on the page are realised.
