Defining the Urban: transdisciplinary views
Organiser: Deljana Iossifova. Supported by IDPM, cities@manchester, GURC and MARC
School of Environment, Education and Development, University of Manchester
This event is part of a larger project aiming to develop new, collaborative and transdisciplinary approaches to urban challenges.
The collaboration of researchers and practitioners with different disciplinary backgrounds is necessary and increasingly common in urban practice and research. However, the lack of a shared terminology and clear definition of the term 'urban' can make it difficult to progress a common agenda.
This event brings together the editors of and some of the contributors to the volume ‘Defining the Urban’ (Ashgate, forthcoming). They will provide and discuss working definitions of the term ‘urban’ and discipline-specific approaches to the city. At the end of the day, a round table will bring together all speakers to identify commonalities and divergences as well as future possibilities for common approaches to the urban.
