This seminar presents three views on how 3D Body Scanning will change mass customisation of Fashion. Three research papers due to presented at the 3D Body Scanning Technology Conference (Canada)
will be given by the authors, who will appreciate your feedback on the presentations.
Dr Chris Parker will open with a view of how 3D Body Scanning can and should be used as part of the retail market. He will then highlight the issues that exist with the technology preventing this vision from
being realised. Finally, he will summarise how the Apparel Design Engineering cluster in Manchester will solve these issues in the coming years.
Ms Monika Januszkiewcz (PhD Student) will present an appraisal of online virtual fit platforms, and highlight why they are not currently fit for purpose. This in controversial considering how international
retailers such as Tommy Hilfiger already embrace the technology. She will conclude with a vision of how 3D Body Scanning may offer an insight into improving the technology.
Ms Maryam Ahmed (PhD Student) will present an appraisal of 3D Body Scanning and its current mismatch with garment development theory. She will also show industry needs to resolve these issues in
order for virtual tailoring to become a reality. Finally, she will offer a clear overview of added complications in garment construction theory and conclude with a way forward for the industry.
