Join us for this online event live from The John Rylands Research Institute and Library, as we bring together 700 years of Dante’s history in books. Dr Guyda Armstrong (Senior Lecturer of Italian Studies at the University of Manchester and Scientific and Digital Lead at the John Rylands Research Institute) and Dr Rhiannon Daniels (Associate Professor of Italian and co-Director of the Centre for Material Texts at the University of Bristol) will discuss their two projects to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death: the Designing Dante exhibition at Manchester, and Dante: Libri nuovi at Bristol, where contemporary artists were invited to produce a new book in response to Dante’s life and work.
The talk will reflect on curation and commissioning processes, as well as the forms of the books, and we will also have a chance to see examples of the artists’ books and some historic editions of Dante from the Rylands collections up close.
This is a free online talk. To register for a place please follow the link
