Please join us, Wednesday 19 March 2025, for the Manchester Neuroscience Seminar Series, the speaker will be Professor Omar Pathmanaban, Academic Neurosurgeon at the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences. This seminar is part 2, part 1 was from Professor Andy King on 5 March 2025.
Title: Academic Neurosurgery in DNS – Part 2: “Where brain meets body- skull base to microenvironment”
Abstract: In part two of this presentation on academic neurosurgery in DNS, on 19th March, Omar Pathmanaban gives an introduction to the skull base- where the brain interfaces with the body and describes the current state of the art for tumours arising in this complex anatomical region. Therapeutic gaps and opportunities for improving management of these patients are highlighted and the potential for biology driven advancements in care will be described. Team science approaches to understanding the role of inflammation and the immune microenvironment of tumours, most notably vestibular schwannoma (Schwann cell tumours of the 8th cranial nerve) will be discussed and the opportunity for DNS to establish a globally leading focus on these tumours and the genetic predisposition syndrome NF2- related schwannomatosis will be presented.
This seminar will be hosted by Professor David Brough.
