Join us for this seminar by Piotr Slowinski (Exeter) as part of the North West Seminar Series in Mathematical Biology and Data Sciences

The talk will be hosted by the University of Liverpool and available to watch via zoom. Please contact carl.whitfield@manchester.ac.uk or mdomijan@liverpool.ac.uk for the link, or sign up to the mailing list.

Title: Modelling UV avoidance circuit in a marine annelid, Platynereis dumerili. Abstract: I'll talk about the development and analysis of a mechanistic model of a new circuit mechanism for UV/light-avoidance behavior in a free-swimming larva of marine segmented worm, Platynereis dumerilii. After introducing the model, I'll describe how we: 1. fitted the model to data (genetic algorithms), 2. analysed model variability (using individual collected datasets), 3. performed local and global sensitivity analysis (using Sobol indices, SALib - python library), 4. analysed observability and structural local identifiability, (Strike-Goldd/ AutoRepar - Matlab toolboxes). Finally, I'll present results of experimental validation of the model predictions. More generally, the talk will present an overview of techniques for data-driven mathematical modelling.
