Abstract: Borel and Harish-Chandra's reduction theory for arithmetic groups constructs of fundamental sets for arithmetic group actions, extending the classical reduction theory of quadratic forms. I will explain a quantitative version of this theory (joint work with Daw), giving polynomial bounds for the translations needed to construct fundamental sets for a conjugacy class of subgroups of a fixed reductive group, even though the shape of the fundamental sets varies dramatically through the conjugacy class. This has applications to the Zilber-Pink conjecture.
