About the event:
There are increasing concerns about the health and wellbeing of children and adolescents because of the potential for poor lifestyle and life experiences to impact on their potential to achieve healthy and happy adult lives, and avoid chronic physical and mental health issues. Schools have therefore increasingly become charged with a key role in promoting child health and wellbeing, and so the need for expertise in school based research to provide information on ‘what works’ is spiralling.
The Manchester Institute of Education is actively in child health and wellbeing research. On Monday 2nd February 2015 they will present a selection of findings from a range of recent projects and share experiences of conducting research with and in schools.
Professor Alan Dyson will give a keynote lecture on child health inequalities arising from his involvement in the Marmot report and four studies on child wellbeing and the role of schools will be shared. A further keynote on the importance of researching the implementation of interventions will be given by Dr Ann Lendrum, followed by three presentations on research practice with school settings, including conducting RCTs with schools, researching children and working with teachers in school settings. A final discussion will explore the opportunities for funding and collaboration in relation to research aiming to promote child health and wellbeing in school settings.
