Can Virtual Reality nature make you feel better?
Virtual Reality nature environments to support Cognitive Restoration
Engaging with nature improves physical and psychological wellbeing but not everyone has access to nature. Can virtual reality be the answer?
Come and immerse yourself in a virtual audio-visual environment of urban and nature settings and see how this impacts on your mental (cognitive) ability and your mood. You will have the opportunity to discuss your own interactions with nature and how this makes you feel. You can also provide the researchers with feedback about whether you think virtual reality can increase interactions with nature in settings such as hospitals where green-space is limited.
This hands-on event will demonstrate the psychological underpinnings to the benefits of nature on wellbeing and cognitive performance. The activity will allow members of the public to consider how a brief interaction with nature can improve their wellbeing and mental ability compared to a engaging with an urban environment. The audience will have the opportunity to experience different environments using VR headsets and they can participate in short and enjoyable cognitive and physiological tests. The event will include live collection of experimental data and the researchers will explain the benefits of nature on psychological wellbeing and performance.
This event is brought to you by the University of Salford.
