An afternoon celebration of the publication of Echoes of Displacement: A collective story of growing older and seeking sanctuary in Manchester, a comic book co-produced with people living and ageing in Manchester, who have sought sanctuary in the UK.
Join us for the whole event or just to pop by! The event will be an opportunity to hear more about the research behind the comic, learn about some of the refugee organisations in Manchester, connect with others, and listen to a performance from the Voices of Hope choir. Finger food and hot drinks are provided.
The comic was created following a series of life story interviews and focus groups with men and women aged 50 and over, conducted by University of Manchester PhD candidate Tess Hartland, and is beautifully illustrated by artist Lindsay Pollock.
In line with Refugee Week’s 2023 theme of compassion, we hope that Echoes of Displacement will raise awareness of the refugee experience, offering humanity and emotion to contradict the negative narratives that fill the media.
Family Friendly event, suitable for all ages (under 18s must have an accompanying adult).
