The Irish World Heritage Centre and The Centre for New Writing at The University of Manchester are delighted to bring to Manchester a unique and exciting poetry event, showcasing the best in modern and contemporary Irish language poetry and poetry in bi-lingual Irish-English translation.

On Saturday 13 May at 6pm, we look forward to welcoming Louis De Paor to launch a dynamic, engaging and wide-ranging poetry collection, De Paor’s anthology, Leabhar Na hAthghabhála: Poems of Repossession (Bloodaxe Books, 2016) This event will be introduced and chaired by John McAuliffe (Centre for New Writing). De Paor will be joined in his reading by some of the collections' translators - Vona Groarke, John McAuliffe and Billy Ramsell.

In Poems of Repossession, editor ‘Louis de Paor brings together more than 160 poems in both Irish and English – more than 500 pages of poetry from the past century, much of the translation newly commissioned’ into ‘a terrific open anthology’ (John McAuliffe, The Irish Times) with some great modern and contemporary surprises and the full century of poetry in Irish and English translation duly represented.

The Centre for New Writing warmly acknowledges the funding support of Culture Ireland in delivering this event. The Irish Diaspora Foundation at the Irish World Heritage Centre would also like to acknowledge the generous contribution of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to this event, via its Emigrant Support Programme.

This event is FREE but booking is recommended. To book, visit http://ow.ly/fQmX30aZ0PP.
