The peerless sophistication of Haydn’s ‘Sunrise’, whose nickname derives from its magical opening, followed by Mozart’s darkly expressive G minor Piano Quartet (with the University’s composer-pianist Richard Whalley), and the second of six quartets by Luigi Cherubini, considered by Beethoven one of his greatest composer-contemporaries.
