Following the AGM there will be an illustrated talk by Charles Foster about the shopping habits of the Warburtons of Arley Hall in the eighteenth century. The archive at Arley Hall is extraordinarily detailed about their purchases for the family and household.
Taking forty invoices and receipts from a collection of over six thousand, Charles Foster details the Warburtons' shopping locally, regionally and nationally. He will take us to visit a little shop in Great Budworth and then on to Knutsford where we visit the apothecary and butcher. In Warrington they purchased coal and in Northwich it was salt and timber. In Chester they purchased special items while Liverpool provided wine and Manchester offered cloth and cotton. Then there was the delights on offer in London.
Tea and cake will be served.
Price: Guests £14.00
