Hear from voices of the time as we take you on a journey through a living exhibition of Peterloo, before inviting you into a thought-provoking debate as we decide: was Peterloo a massacre or a riot?
In a first for The John Rylands Library, enjoy live performances portraying key historical figures. From radical reformers to those loyal to King and country – you’ll be armed with opinions in the first part of this unique event.
Following this, you’ll be part of a fantastic debate on the nature of Peterloo with experts including Dr Robert Poole; Rosie Garland, our Writer in Residence; and Dr Janette Martin, Archivist and curator of the Library’s current Peterloo exhibition.
Free entry, booking is essential.
Don’t miss out: please make sure to arrive promptly, as once the event starts you will be off exploring different areas of the building. As we will be moving around small spaces and some steps, please visit our accessibility page and contact us if you have any concerns around access, we always do our best to accommodate anyone.
